One Sunrise

Clouds of pewter-purple
Skies of antique white
A sliver at the treeline
Of red-ripe grapefruit flesh
Puffs of sulfur and lemon ice
Topaz strands before the sky
Stabilizes

The white turns to green
The cloud to a valley of embers
Illuming
New-born blue beyond it
Like birth and death commingled
