I only hear the distant realms, when to myself
I sing and strum, and
silently my heart corresponds;
And soon I am transformed,
by
The sign you
flicker, purple wine!
In the forest shade, the stupendous midday sun
Shines gently on
the arbor in the very place
Where peacefully
I sat, when,
Enraged at grave insults I strayed
Off into the field – Ever quick to anger but
Your poet,
nature, easily weeps and laments
The delights; like children their
Too-affectionate
mother holds,
Who walk the path in silence, morose and full of
Imperious
defiance, and soon enough they
Wander off again, breaking
From the trail in bold resistance.
But you hardly stir them, the welcoming lovers!
They are peaceful and pious; cheerfully obey;
You steer
them, mistress, with your
Soft reins, wherever you wish.

Die Launischen
Hör' ich ferne nur her, wenn ich für mich geklagt,
Saitenspiel und
Gesang, schweigt mir das Herz doch gleich;
Bald auch bin
ich verwandelt,
Blinkst du,
purpurner Wein! mich an
Unter Schatten des Walds, wo die gewaltige
Mittagssonne mir
sanft über dem Laube glänzt;
Ruhig sitz ich
daselbst, wenn
Zürnend
schwerer Beleidigung
Ich im Felde geirrt - Zürnen zu gerne doch
Deine Dichter,
Natur! trauern und weinen leicht,
Die Beglückten;
wie Kinder,
Die zu
zärtlich die Mutter hält,
Sind sie mürrisch und voll herrischen Eigensinns;
Wandeln still sie
des Wegs, irret Geringes doch
Bald sie wieder;
sie reißen
Aus dem
Gleise sich sträubend dir.
Doch du rührest sie kaum, Liebende! freundlich an,
Sind sie friedlich
und fromm; fröhlich gehorchen sie;
Du lenkst,
Meisterin! sie mit
Weichem
Zügel, wohin du willst.
