The Dangers of Reading

"Yet another reason for reading is to experiment with immense elasticity of the imagination. How much can it hold?" - Patrick Kurp

Ah, haecceitas, escape hatch of the Jesuits,
Neither St. Francis, who, as Rexroth said, was not a Christian
(Hollow full of sacraments for the pagans who are male),
Nor Bob Dylan, tilting at an "idiot wind" mill,
The howl at the great implacable Other,
Knew the numinal, could get as subjective
As German philosophers knew one needed to be,
Could get close enough to the guardians of the mystery
To hear them laughing at us, respectfully.

If you see a Buddha on the street, kill it, they say
For daring to speak of the Tao;
The word cannot get inside of the Word,
The human can't really turn into a verb.

God is the atheist, we all must believe
In something...I believe I'll have
Another drink - of ambrosia,
Food of theologians
With their heads in the stars.
