After the Jazz Has Ended

NPR broadcasts
Evil's announcements
And sometimes
Evil-lite's dissents
On procedure.

All of this is done
With an arrogant flair
As if they do believe
They are bringing the World
Inside my head
Like Apollo brings forth the Sun.

Then a snatch of
Experimental electronic music
From a Dijbouti activist-turned-filmmaker
Before a few words,
While other stations would play commercials,
From someone dispossessed
By evil, an author, say
Or someone who has studied it.
The host gushes
How this is important
To living one's life.

If my mother wasn't brainwashed by all this,
She would have warned me about them;
Those who lie and tell the truth in the same breath
Are designed to drive one mad.
