Off Maryland Avenue

Where you really aren't sure
If it’s grey hair dyed blue
Or blue hair dyed grey.
The chaos from the South makes the wires sway.
A synapse spark connects the lamps
So that everything so utterly unique—
From the rocks on the mailboxes
To the concrete boxes with gears on the side of the street
Seems of a piece of some panoply of weirdness,
Something for Sammy to say "crazy" to—
The souped-up Chevys, the biblical beards,
The white sheik robes, the easyrider handlebar with moustache to
boot,
Men and women both with that gypsy look of someone ageless,
Aligned to some color beyond human view
Living a life that is no longer tied to its roots.
