Why Birds Talk When They Land

We escape, at night, in dreams, from words
That guard, by day, our cells

They fence us out of nature
With prayer and declarations

Techniques of subjugation
Gateways of creation

Description turns to platitude
Unearthing to rebuke

Until we've built a wall
From meters and gematria

Of what would give us meaning
Or keep us from our purpose, we suppose

While life outside of words, the real, hides
It smiles, flies free, lets us decide
