Hotel Vignette

Grande Lakes, Florida

The orange lights of Orlando at dawn
as the night people with their moon-white faces
chasing billowing sun-dress breezes give way
to the people of the day, with their straight
white skirts and marble-tapping shoes
inside the luxury prison
of Romanesque colonnades,
conquistador chandeliers,
uncertain coral colors.
A squirrel runs across the palazzo
to the forest of gold bamboo.
Floating moss crosses the lake,
the sawgrass glistens.
